Bats Explode for Braves in 20-6 Win over Dartmouth

8

The Bradley baseball team scored its most runs against a Division I school in 16 seasons as BU dominated Dartmouth on Friday afternoon in a 20-6 victory. The Braves are now 5-9 on the season, while the Big Green move to 3-7.

Bradley's 20 runs are its most against a Division I school since defeating Cornell, 24-2, on March 18, 2006. The Braves also collected 21 hits in the winning effort – the team's most versus a DI opponent since also hitting 21 against Illinois State on May 2, 2008.

Senior Keaton Rice, sophomore Carson Husmann and freshman Michael Mylott led the Braves at the plate. Rice recorded the first four-hit game of his career in just five at-bats, while also matching his career high with five RBI. Husmann and Mylott, meanwhile, became the first two Braves this season to hit multiple home runs in the victory. Husmann was 3-for-5 with a career-best five RBI, while Mylott went 3-for-6 with his two homers the first of his career.

Freshman Jacob Kisting pitched six innings – allowing three runs – to improve to 3-1 on the mound during his rookie campaign.

Overall, Bradley scored in seven of eight innings, quickly jumping out to an 8-1 advantage after the first. Rice hit a triple to knot the contest at one in the opening frame before Husmann followed one batter later with his first homer of the game for a 3-1 lead BU would not relinquish. The Braves then loaded the bases and freshman Jack Lincoln scored one with a single before classmate Cal McGinnis drove in two with a single of his own. Junior Connor O'Brien completed the eight-run inning with a double that plated two for the seven-run lead.

The Braves would then add one run in both the second and third innings before scoring four in the third and fourth frames. Mylott's first career homer highlighted the fourth frame before Husmann added his team-leading fourth home run in the fifth inning – a three-run shot for an 18-3 Bradley lead. Mylott then finished the scoring for BU with a two-run shot in the eighth inning, leading to the 20-6 final tally.

Bradley is back in action tomorrow afternoon, squaring off against Central Connecticut with a 2 p.m. CT start time.
