After leading the Bradley baseball team to a key series win versus Missouri State to finish the 2022 regular season, senior catcher Keaton Rice was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week on Monday.
During the three-game series, Rice hit .571 (8-of-14) with six runs scored and seven RBI. The senior recorded multiple hits in all three games, connecting on one home run and three doubles. Rice was especially strong in a doubleheader sweep on Friday that clinched a top-four seed in the MVC Tournament for BU, going 6-for-10 with four RBI in the opener and three in the finale.
Overall, Rice finished the 2022 regular season hitting a career-best .319. He also has collected a team-high 27 extra-base hits in his final campaign, ranking first among Valley catchers. In fact, his 21 doubles are the most by a Brave since 2016 as he currently ranks sixth nationally with 0.49 doubles per game (first in the country among catchers).
The weekly accolade is the first for Rice during his standout career.
Rice and the Braves now turn their attention toward the postseason as Bradley opens the MVC Tournament against Dallas Baptist Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
