Mike Thoms, a candidate for the Illinois State Senate District 36 seat, said a recent appearance by Vice President Mike Pence at a local fundraiser is a good sign for the state's GOP.

"My family and I thoroughly enjoyed being surrounded by other passionate conservatives last night for the Peoria County and Tazewell County Lincoln Day Dinner with Vice President Mike Pence!" Thoms said on Facebook. "Last night was proof that the Republican Party is alive and well in Illinois. This election is pivotal in creating change in our country, and VP Pence stressed that in his remarks last night."

The Tazewell and Peoria County Republicans Lincoln Day Dinner was held Monday, June 20 at the Peoria Civic Center ballroom. It was hosted by U.S. Rep. Congressman Darin LaHood and Esther Joy King, a candidate for Congress, according to the invitation.

"I think this may be one of the most important elections in the life of this nation," Pence said.

Sponsorship for the event started at $1,250 as a Blue Sponsor for a table of one and climbed as high as $10,000 for the Grand Sponsor, which included premium seating for a table of 10, VIP reception, photo with Pence and recognition at the event.

raffle was held as part of the evening's events with first prize of $1,000 going to Robert Fry of Chicago, second prize of $500 to Glenn Holmes of Hoffman Estates and third prize of $250 to Darryl Rutledge of Joliet.

"With Election Day only a week away, now is the time to make your plan to vote!," Thoms said on Facebook.
