City of Chillicothe Public Safety Committee met Dec. 6.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

Members of the Public Safety Committee met in person on December 6, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.

Members of the Committee present:

Chairman Jeff Jenkins

Alderperson Dean Braun

Chairman Jenkins called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m.

Public Comment:

William Ohlmann addressed the committee with a concern that illegal dumping was occurring at the foot of Oak Street, the hillside west of the salt shed. The Mayor stated that he believed the area is Chillicothe Township property. This issue will be processed as a property maintenance complaint. Mr. Ohlmann stated that clean-up of his property 1317 First Street would begin Wednesday December 7, 2022.

Landon Dunbar addressed the committee with a concern of continued neglect, trash and debris at the residence of 1317 First Street. Chairman Jenkins advised said property has already been submitted as a property maintenance issue.

Purpose:

BUDGET 22-23

Chief Cooper reported all line items were within budget guidelines.

STOP SIGN INTERSECTION OF ASH AND FIRST STREETS:

Chief Cooper reported that there had been 1 accident at the intersection in the past year. A discussion ensued as to the appropriate location for the stop sign. The consensus of the committee was for the City of Chillicothe Police Department to monitor the intersection and report their recommendation of the location of the stop sign to the committee at a later date.

PURCHASE - WIRELESS ROUTER AND ANTENNA – POLICE VEHICLE:

Chief Cooper presented an invoice from CDS Office Technologies in the amount of $1,266.00, for the replacement of a non-working and outdated router and antenna for a police vehicle. The consensus of the committee was to make this an agenda item to be presented at the December 12, 2022 Council Meeting for approval. Payable from the Police Protection Fund.

PURCHASE - TIRES AND INSTALLATION:

Chief Cooper presented an estimate from Beau's Tire in the amount of $1,100.00, for the replacement and installation of new tires for the Chevrolet Tahoe. The consensus of the committee was to make this an agenda item to be presented at the December 12, 2022 Council Meeting for approval. Payable from the Police Protection Fund.

PURCHASE - LAPTOP FOR OFFICER TRAINING:

Chief Cooper presented an invoice from Pearl Technology in the amount of 1,123.00, for the purchase of a new laptop for officer training. The consensus of the committee was to make this an agenda item to be presented at the December 12, 2022 Council Meeting for approval. Payable from the Police Protection Fund.

MEG - Fiduciary

Chief Cooper reported that he had been in contact with the director of MEG-Fiduciary. They will meet in January for final decision as to the responsibility of the fiduciary, once established it will be effective February 1, 2023.

UPDATE: CHILLICOTHE POLICE DPARTMENT:

Chief Cooper gave a report on impounded vehicles and ordinance zone statistics.

UPDATE: CHILLICOTHE COMMUNITY FIRE DISTRICT:

Assistant Fire Chief Dave Price stated they have had 46 calls in 28 days for a total year to date of 559 calls. He also stated that December 15, 2022 would be the final day for residential burning.

NEW/OLD PROPERTY MAINTENANCE:

None.

PROPERTY MAINTENANCE 1317 FIRST STREET:

No further discussion was held.

OLD BUSINESS:

None.
