The Farmington Central Community Unit School District #265 Board recognized the achievements of some of its students during its Feb. 13 meeting.

The recognized students were: sixth-graders Sophia Thrush and Joel Layer, seventh-graders Cassidy Carr and Cayden Hartstim, and eighth graders Avery Blunier and Jackson Davis.

Farmington Central Junior High principal Chris Uptmoor read remarks about each student, praising Sophia's endless extracurricular involvements, Joel's ability to work well with his classmates, Cassidy's excellence in her classes, Cayden's work ethic and respect for others, Avery's consistently positive and energetic attitude, and Jackson's quiet but humorous personality.

Additionally, one student from each grade in Farmington Central High School was selected for the title of Student of the Month. The four students, introduced to the Board by FCHS principal Dennis McMillin, were: freshman Calvin Thompson, for his dedication to his athletics and his straight-A report card in the fall 2022 semester; sophomore Austin Perdue, who loves the outdoors and working and is deciding between pursuing a trade or the military after high school; junior Keauntry Barnes, who plays both football and basketball and is regarded as an outstanding athlete; and senior Sam Gronewald, who plays football, is involved with multiple nonprofit and volunteer organizations, and enjoys hunting and fishing.

The board also recognized its "Orange Frogs," or staff members who have been recognized for going above and beyond their responsibilities. The recognized staff members are: Rebecca Marvel for helping students with their athletic pursuits on a daily basis; Samantha Buwick for her work as a school psychologist to support students in multiple ways to best meet their needs; Danielle Hasty, a cafeteria worker who always cheers students up with her smile and positive attitude; and Ann Goggli for her dedication to and aid for her students' social and emotional health.

"Ann Goggli is a veteran student facilitator at the high school," said Farmington Central superintendent Zac Chatterton. "Ann is incredibly understanding of the students' social and emotional circumstances and needs and goes out of her way to make sure students' needs are met. Ms. Goggli shows compassion and understanding to her students and seeks resources and help for her students when she sees them in need."
