In a recent Facebook post, Illinois state Rep. Jason Bunting (R-Dist. 106) recognized the achievement of the Prairie Central Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter.

"Prairie Central FFA chapter one step closer to international competition,” Bunting said in the post.

The post also included a link to an article from Farm Week Now. The article announced that Prairie Central High School's Dairy Cattle Evaluation and Management Team has an opportunity to compete in Scotland at the Royal Highland International Dairy Judging Contest and in Ireland at the Clonmel Show in late June.

The announcement was made during National FFA Week. The Illinois FFA Association kicked off the Feb. 18-25 celebration with its own Facebook post.

"Happy FFA Week Illinois FFA!” the post said. "The Major State Officer Team is kicking the week off with SAE Sunday. We have all shared a glimpse of what our Supervised Agriculture Experiences are like, and we encourage you to do the same! Keep a lookout for an SAE article to see all of the opportunities that come with a record book.”

The Illinois Future Farmers of America dates back to 1928, when State Supervisor of Agriculture Education J.E. Hill mentioned the FFA program to teachers at a state teachers' convention. Nearly 1,500 students and advisors showed up in June to create the Illinois Future Farmers of America organization.

Bunting was selected to represent the 106th House District after Thomas Bennett was chosen to join the Senate to fill the seat of former Sen. Jason Barickman, who stepped down before the legislative session began. Bunting was previously elected as the highway commissioner of Broughton Township and as president of the Livingston County Farm Bureau.

Bunting is a director for the Illinois Corn Growers’ Association, his website biography said. He resides in Emington.
