Washington, D.C. - Congressman Darin LaHood (IL-16) voiced his opposition to the Motion to Vacate and the removal of Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. LaHood criticized the maneuver, stating, "Using the Motion to Vacate to remove Speaker McCarthy with a majority of Democrat votes is a shameful maneuver that does a disservice to the American people and hinders the key conservative priorities that voters put a Republican Majority in the House to advance."

LaHood further highlighted the challenges faced under the Biden Administration and a Democrat-controlled Senate, emphasizing the crisis at the southern border, the rise in violent crime, and the negative impact of the Biden economy on working families. He commended Speaker McCarthy and the House Republican Majority for being the only body in the federal government pushing back against the left-wing agenda from the White House.

Expressing concern over the motives of a few Members of Congress, LaHood cautioned, "Today's move by a few Members more concerned with clicks and soundbites, rather than working to achieve conservative policy victories, threatens to hand the House of Representatives back to Democrats. Hardworking Illinois families will pay the price for these political games."

Committing to finding a resolution, LaHood pledged, "I will continue to work in the days ahead to end this impasse and pursue solutions to the problems voters sent our Republican Majority to Washington to fix."
