NEPONSET, IL - Dozens of high school students will have the opportunity to explore careers in manufacturing at Black Hawk College's Manufacturing Day on October 6. The event, organized by the college, aims to inspire young individuals and provide them with valuable insights into the industry.
The highlight of the day will be a tour of Martin Engineering, a leading manufacturing company located in Neponset, Illinois. Students will have the chance to witness firsthand the various processes involved in manufacturing and gain an understanding of the career opportunities available in the field.
Following the tour, the students will head to the Black Hawk College Welding & Skilled Trades Center (WSTC) in Kewanee for interactive sessions. The WSTC, situated at 520 E. Third St., will host these sessions from 11 A.M. to NOON, providing an engaging learning environment for the participants.
During the interactive sessions, the students will have the chance to experience virtual welding, a cutting-edge technology that simulates real welding scenarios. Additionally, representatives from six local manufacturing companies will be present to share their expertise and provide valuable insights into the industry.
One of the key highlights of the event will be the introduction to the IGNITE advanced manufacturing program. This program, offered by Black Hawk College, equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the manufacturing industry.
State Representative Travis Weaver, a strong advocate for education and manufacturing, will be attending Manufacturing Day and has generously offered to provide lunch for the students. His support highlights the importance of fostering relationships between education and the industry.
