City of Marquette Heights City Council met Sept. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

CALL TO ORDER

The Committee Meeting was called to order at 6:30 P.M by Mayor Hamm.

ROLL CALL

The following Aldermen were present: Alderman Amundson, Greiner, Joos, Neumann, and Neuhaus.

Also present were Mayor Hamm, Deputy Treasurer Reynolds, Clerk Steele, Police Chief Merritt, Water Superintendent Chet Merritt, Fire Chief Hermacinski, Office Manager Minson and Street Superintendent Smith.

Absent: Alderman Greiner and Deputy Clerk Minson

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

Mayor

The Mayor and Alderman Babb met with Mr. and Mrs. Fields, regarding a city tree that fell on their fence at the back of the property. They have asked the City to do the cleanup and repairs to their fence or pay their deductible. An agreement was drawn up releasing the City from any damages incurred if the City removed the tree from their property. They refused to sign the agreement and will contact their attorney.

Clerk

Treasurer

Cell phone tower leases land. Someone is interested in a buyout of the lease. Offer not feasible for the City.

A discussion of water rates was held.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:

Water and Sewer – Alderman Neumann

GA Rich helped with a valve repair on Lincoln due to utilities in the immediate vicinity.

Law Enforcement – Alderman Amundson

Camera issues, Watchguard is sending new units.

Concrete coming once prepped.

19-1 engine delivered.

Streets – Alderman Joos

Salt door to be replaced with wood.

Catching up on work orders. Discussion about equipment that could be sold.

Public Buildings / Parks – Alderman Neuhaus

Liberty Hall doors replaced.

New edger is down.

Chipper needs a bearing.

Fire – Alderman Greiner

Streets Department to hot patch the fire concrete apron.

Accident with fire truck. No one hurt.

Fundraiser being held at Morton Pizza Ranch on September 6, 5-8pm

Planning – Alderman Babb

Planning Commission will have a new member meeting

Discussion of city owned properties.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Motion to approve the appointment of Chet Merritt to Water and Sewer Superintendent. Alderman Neuman, Alderman Babb seconded. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed
  2. Motion to approve the appointment of Tim Smith to Streets, Parks and Buildings Superintendent. Alderman Joos, Alderman Amundson seconded. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed
  3. Motion to approve the August 28, 2023, termination of Nate Hoehn’s employment with the City. Alderman Neumann, Alderman Babb seconded. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed
Other Business Pertaining to the City

ANY OTHER BUSINESS PERTAINING TO THE CITY.

ADJOURNMENT

Alderman Neumann made a motion, seconded by Alderman Amundson, to adjourn the regular City of Marquette Heights Committee Meeting at 8:03 p.m. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed.
