PEORIA, IL (December 15, 2023) - The city of Peoria has announced a new partnership with Ampion Renewable Energy to offer income-eligible residents the opportunity to sign up for a cost-saving community solar program. This program aims to help residents save money on their electric bills while also contributing to renewable energy generation.
Under this community solar program, participants will have the chance to benefit from solar energy without the need to purchase or install solar panels. Instead, program participants will be matched to a solar farm, and the electricity generated from this farm will be sent to the grid, increasing the availability of renewable energy in the community.
Ameren Illinois, the local utility company, will then apply renewable energy credits to the participants' utility bills each month based on the amount of electricity generated. These credits have the potential to save customers up to 10% off their electric bills, providing a significant cost-saving opportunity for eligible residents.
To be eligible for the program, applicants must be residents of the city of Peoria and receiving ongoing public assistance. Proof of benefits will be required during the application process. Some of the qualifying benefits include the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
Interested community members can apply for the program online through their own devices or attend one of the two upcoming open house events. The open house events will provide an opportunity for individuals to learn more about the program and receive assistance with the application process. The dates and locations of the open house events are as follows:
- Thursday, December 21st, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the East Bluff Community Center, located at 512 E Kansas Street, Peoria, IL 61603.
- Tuesday, January 9th, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at North Valley Commons, located at 1203 NE Perry Avenue, Peoria, IL 61603.
For those seeking more information or assistance, Ampion Renewable Energy can be contacted through their website or by calling (800) 277-3631.
This collaboration between the city of Peoria and Ampion Renewable Energy represents a significant step towards promoting renewable energy and providing cost-saving opportunities for income-eligible residents. By harnessing the power of solar energy and making it accessible to the community, Peoria is demonstrating its commitment to a sustainable future while also helping its residents save money on their electric bills.
