Event will provide information to minority-owned businesses on procurement
(PEORIA, IL) The city of Peoria, in partnership with the Peoria NAACP, the Minority Business Development Center, the Illinois State Black Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Peoria Chamber of Commerce, the Small Business Development Center at Bradley University, Better Built, West Central Building and Construction Trades Council, and the Greater Peoria Contractors and Suppliers Association will host the Equity in Procurement Expo on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at the Peoria Civic Center, Room 200, 201 SW Jefferson.
The event will allow attendees to learn about the City’s procurement process, register with the City’s Minority and Women-Owned Business Registry, and meet with additional government agencies. Light refreshments will be served, and free parking will be available in the Civic Center parking lot at Monroe and Fulton Streets.
The event will begin with brief presentations from the State of Illinois Commission on Equity and Inclusion and their Business Enterprise Program and presentations from the Minority Business Development Center and Bradley University’s Small Business Development Center. Representatives from Peoria County, Peoria Public Schools, Peoria Park District, Greater Peoria Sanitary District, CityLink, West Peoria, Illinois Central College, and the construction trades will also be on-site.
Mayor Ali stated, “This is a wonderful opportunity for minority business owners to learn more about the government procurement process and opportunities to do business with the city and other government entities. This event aims to foster diversity, increase economic empowerment, and grow local businesses within our community.”
