Glen Avenue lane closures to begin March 4 between Dawn Drive and University Street

Lane closures on Glen Avenue between Dawn Drive and University Street are set to commence on March 4 as part of the ongoing Glen Avenue Reconstruction Project. According to the official announcement, the closures will affect both the eastbound and westbound passing lanes for a period of two to three weeks, contingent on weather conditions.

In a statement regarding the upcoming lane closures, project spokesperson, who asked to remain anonymous, emphasized the importance of driver awareness and caution during this period. They were quoted saying, "Drivers should exercise extra caution in the area, follow posted speed limits, and watch for these lane closures." The spokesperson also advised drivers to consider using alternative routes to minimize disruptions.

The Glen Avenue Reconstruction Project, a significant undertaking with a total cost of $10.5 million, aims to enhance the infrastructure along this stretch of road. The project includes various improvements such as the replacement of existing pavement, installation of new curb and gutter, storm sewer upgrades, and improved pedestrian accommodations.

The completion of the first phase of the project, which covered the section from W War Memorial Drive to N Dawn Drive, was successfully finished in December 2023. The upcoming lane closures between Dawn Drive and University Street mark the beginning of phase two of the project, focusing on entrance accesses and crossovers.

As the community prepares for the upcoming lane closures, residents and commuters are urged to stay informed about the project's progress and any updates regarding the roadwork. The Glen Avenue Reconstruction Project aims to not only improve the road infrastructure but also enhance safety and accessibility for all road users.
