Illinois is among the five states set to hold their Primary Election Days on Tuesday, March 19, 2024. This comes on the heels of Joe Biden and Donald Trump securing their parties' nominations for the presidential race in the upcoming General Election on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Despite the presidential candidates being decided, Illinois voters still have important decisions to make during the primary elections. They will have the opportunity to vote for nominees for various positions, including U.S. House representatives, Illinois House and Senate seats, judicial positions, and local government offices. Chicago voters will also weigh in on a Real Estate Transfer Tax referendum.

The upcoming election cycle will be the second under new legislative maps redrawn in 2020, following the census and reapportionment process. Many voters will be casting their ballots in new judicial districts for the first time.

Voters are reminded that the polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Illinois State Board of Elections emphasizes the importance of familiarizing oneself with voting rights and related information before heading to the polls. Sample ballots can be obtained from local Election Authorities for reference.

Additionally, voters are entitled to receive instructions on using the voting equipment, and disabled voters can receive assistance if needed. It is crucial for voters to ensure their registration is active at their current residence to receive the correct ballot on Election Day.

In case of any issues with voting, such as a missing name on the voter list, voters can cast a provisional ballot. The status of a provisional ballot can be checked to verify if it was tabulated.

Candidates, political parties, and civic organizations have the right to appoint pollwatchers to oversee polling place procedures. Voters are encouraged to report any fraudulent activities to maintain the integrity of the elections.

As Primary Election Day approaches, Illinois residents are gearing up to exercise their right to vote and have their voices heard in shaping the future of their state and country.
