The gasoline tax in Illinois is set to rise by three percent to 47 cents per gallon on July 1. This increase is intended to fund road repairs, yet the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) reportedly has a $3 billion balance in its road fund.

Rep. Weaver expressed concerns over this issue, stating, "It’s time for IDOT to spend that money to fix our roads or we need to cut the gas tax."

Additionally, electric vehicle owners will also face new taxes.
