Mason County taxpayers ranked 72nd in total sales taxes paid per county in May, according to Illinois tax records.

In total, Mason County residents paid $142,291 in sales taxes during May.

Mason County ranked 74th in the Prairie State the month before, with $132,342 spent in sales taxes.

The County School Facility Tax accounted for the largest share of sales taxes paid by Mason County residents in May.

As of 2021, Illinois was the highest taxed state in the US. A study from Wallet Hub found Illinois taxes were 39.83% higher than the national average.
