City of Eureka City Council met Aug. 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The Eureka City Council convened in regular session on August 5, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. Mayor pro tem Richard Teegarden called the meeting to order and after a moment of silence led The Pledge of Allegiance and then directed the City Clerk to call the roll. Present were Aldermen Chambliss, Hasty, Klaus, Littlejohn, Logan and Wilson. Aldermen Williams was absent. Also in attendance were Lynn Hinnen, Treasurer; Erik Hasselbacher, Director of Public Works; Kim Jones, Assistant Chief of Police; and Melissa Brown, City Services Coordinator.

Moved by Wilson, second by Littlejohn, to approve the minutes of the July 15, 2024, regular meeting of the City Council, and the minutes of the July 29 Special Council Meeting. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Wilson, Littlejohn, Chambliss, Hasty, Klaus and Logan all voting Aye.

The Mayor asked for public comments on any action to be taken on Agenda items. There were none.

Moved by Chambliss, second by Hasty, to approve and pay the bills as the City's obligation in the amount of $1,114,968.45. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Chambliss, Hasty, Klaus, Littlejohn, Logan and Wilson all voting Aye

Moved by Wilson, second by Chambliss, to approve cost adjustments for the 10-foot bandstand alterations. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Wilson, Chambliss, Hasty, Klaus, Littlejohn, and Logan all voting Aye

Moved by Chambliss, second by Klaus, to approve the request from Eureka College for an extension of the noise ordinance allowance for a student event. There is a band playing until 10 p.m. August 17 when the students return to campus for fall semester. Passed on roll call vote with Aldermen Chambliss, Klaus, Hasty, Littlejohn, Logan and Wilson all voting Aye

Committee Reports:

Chairman Chambliss of the Budget Committee: No report

Chairman Chambliss of the Administration and Personnel Committee: No report

Chairman Teegarden of the Enterprise Committee: The two service lines on Cruger Street have been replaced. The repaving starts next Monday and should be completed one week from Saturday. Erik met with the School Administrator concerning the beginning of school concerns. We received the FEMA award for the flood wall.

Chairman Williams of the Maintenance Committee: Brush pickup was today. The Oak Drive area bids are coming in.

Chairman Klaus of the Public Safety Committee: No report

Chairman Wilson of the Park and Recreation Committee: The Disc Golf event is done and was cleaned up this morning. The work on the upgrading of the restrooms will begin soon.

Chairman Teegarden of the Economic Development Committee: No report Chairman Mayor Lind of the Liquor Committee: No report

New Business: The Experience Eureka Event is September 6. We will serve popcorn and cotton candy here at City Hall. The pavers for the Charters of Freedom will be here by the end of August.

Public Comments: None

There being no further business to come before the Council the meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
