Teen charged for shooting at police officer in South Peoria

September 16, 2024, Peoria, IL – A 16-year-old male has been charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon for allegedly shooting at a police officer on Thursday night in South Peoria.

At approximately 9:15 pm on Thursday, police responded to the 2800 block of W. Ann Street following reports of a male with a gun. Upon arrival, an officer observed three males standing near the intersection of W. Ann Street and S. Manual Avenue. One individual from the group, later identified as the defendant, reportedly fired at the officer. All three individuals fled but were detained after a brief chase. Authorities recovered a handgun equipped with a laser sight. The other two individuals were subsequently released.

The Peoria County State's Attorney's Office has filed a Petition to Transfer the case to adult court. The defendant remains in custody at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
