Congressman Darin LaHood of Illinois has issued a statement marking the anniversary of the October 7, 2023, terrorist attacks in Israel. Reflecting on the events that transpired a year ago, LaHood described the attack by Hamas as "one of the worst terror attacks the world has seen," which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 individuals and led to hostages being taken.

LaHood emphasized ongoing concerns for those still held captive by Hamas, including American citizens. He also highlighted the rise in antisemitic acts targeting Jewish communities globally following these events.

In his statement, LaHood pointed out continued aggression from Iran and its allies—Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis—against Israel. He asserted that "the United States has an obligation to continue our support for Israel's right to self-defense" and stressed the importance of protecting U.S. troops stationed in the Middle East.

The congressman concluded by calling for accountability from Iran and its proxies as part of commemorating this somber anniversary.
