A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City Of East Peoria Finance Department on October 31, 2024. The request was made by us at the Peoria Standard, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The FOIA request specifically asked for records of businesses that paid sales tax to the city from January 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. The requested records include the business name, business type, and the amount of sales tax paid by each business during this period.
In addition to individual business records, we also requested information about the total amount of sales tax collected by the city during this time frame.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, access to these public records is crucial for our reporting. We believe that such information can provide valuable insights into the financial operations of our local government and contribute significantly towards fostering an informed citizenry.
We have requested these records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act and have asked for a fee waiver as a media professional. We are currently awaiting a response from the City Of East Peoria Finance Department regarding our request.
