City of Chillicothe Cemetery, Parks, Recreation & Beautification Committee met Nov. 19.

Here is the agenda provided by the committee:

Members of the Cemetery & Parks Committee met in person on November 19, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Cemetery & Parks Committee members present at the meeting in the Council Chambers: Chairman Tim White, Alderperson Bredeman

Others in attendance in the Council Chamber: Clerk Jill Byrnes, Superintendent Shawn Sutherland, Alderperson Sharp present in the audience.

Others absent in the Council Chamber: Alderperson Connor

PUBLIC COMMENT:

None.

PURPOSE:

DISCUSSION - BEAUTIFY CITY PARKS:

Chairman T. White discussed with the Committee he is still in the process of obtaining information and quotes for various City parks improvements. Updates will be discussed at the next Cemetery & Parks Committee meeting.

DISCUSSION - REPLACEMENT ATLAS NUMBERED MARKERS FOR CEMETERY:

Superintendent Sutherland informed the Committee that to date 6 section markers were broken or missing and a quote was obtained by Clerk Byrnes from Holland Supply for $1,299.80, however, purchase of the replacement numbered markers would not be ordered at this time. The consensus of the Committee is that this agenda item will be added as a potential purchase to the 25-26 budget for consideration at that time.

DISCUSSION - WINTER DOCK STORAGE:

Superintendent Sutherland informed the Committee that he had met with Rick Hamm and discussed options for the dock winter storage. The tentative plan is to unbolt the mounts, raise the mounts, and chain them on top of the piling. The walkway ramp will be lifted, subject to the City entering into a contract with Otto's Monument, and stored in the parking lot. The docks will be floated to the Casting Club for winter storage, subject to the City entering into a contract with the Casting Club. Superintendent Sutherland will be reaching out to Rick Hamm, Otto's and the Casting Club for quotes and potential contract information.

SEASONAL WORKERS:

Superintendent Sutherland informed the Committee that he had interviewed 3 potential candidates for the replacement of the 3 vacant seasonal positions. The consensus of the Committee was to have Superintendent Sutherland reach out to the candidates to inform them of his interest in hiring them in the spring.

PRIORITY 2 PROJECT - CEMETERY KIOSK:

Chairman T. White stated that information and options are still being considered. The consensus of the Committee is that this agenda item will be moved from a Priority Two to a Priority One project in the 25-26 budget and updates will be discussed at the next Cemetery & Parks Committee meeting.

HEADSTONE REPAIRS:

Superintendent Sutherland informed the Committee that Otto's Monument had submitted an invoice for $900.00 for repair of 2 headstones. Superintendent Sutherland informed the Committee that he would be contacting Otto's to request that he be informed prior to any future repairs for better management of the project. Updates will be discussed at the next Cemetery & Parks Committee meeting.

SHADEMAKERS UPDATE:

Alderperson Connor was absent from the meeting.
