A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Peoria County Clerk's office on January 14, 2025. The request, made by us at the Peoria Standard, seeks detailed information about the candidates running for the upcoming 2025 Consolidated Elections.
Specifically, we are seeking a list of candidates that includes their names, the dates they filed their candidacy, and the specific offices they are running for. This information is critical in providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
As a media organization committed to transparency and holding public institutions accountable, we believe access to such public records is essential. It enables us to fulfill our professional responsibilities effectively. We have requested this information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, and have asked for it in an electronic format for ease of dissemination.
We also believe that as a media organization disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver. As always, we remain open to any questions or clarifications needed regarding this request.
