Today, Derreck S. Hall, aged 45, has been charged with First Degree Murder in connection with the death of his girlfriend, Latrista L. Warfield, aged 37. The incident occurred at The Grove Apartment Complex located in North Peoria. Hall faces an additional charge of Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Repeat Felony Offender. Following the State's Petition to Detain, Hall will remain in custody until his trial.
The police responded to a report around 11 am on Sunday regarding a woman down at the 1400 block of W. Candlelight Court. Upon arrival, they discovered Warfield lying in a pool of blood in the hallway outside one of the apartments and pronounced her dead at the scene. She had been shot six times.
On Sunday night, Hall surrendered himself to law enforcement and informed them that he possessed the firearm used "in the thing." Detectives retrieved the gun and confirmed that test shots from it matched shell casings found at the crime scene.
