February 13, 2025, Peoria, IL – Keith L. Winters, aged 34, faces six charges of residential burglary following a series of break-ins in Peoria neighborhoods from Forrest Hill to Glen Avenue. These incidents occurred between December 3 and December 16, 2024. A detention hearing took place today where the State’s Petition to Detain was approved, ensuring that Winters will remain in custody until his trial.

On December 3, 2024, at approximately 7:30 pm, police responded to a reported burglary on the 5000 block of N. Edgebrook Drive. The victim informed officers that a window had been shattered and her home ransacked with drawers pulled out. Items such as debit and credit cards along with some jewelry were missing.

During their investigation, officers found five additional burglaries in the vicinity exhibiting similar characteristics—ransacked homes with broken windows or doors and drawers pulled out. In one instance, a victim was asleep on the couch during the break-in; another incident involved the theft of a gun.

Officers identified Winters as a suspect in these burglaries. He was apprehended on Tuesday and confessed to committing them.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
