State Representative Travis Weaver from Edwards has expressed his concerns following Governor Pritzker's Budget and State of the State Address. Weaver criticized the proposed budget, highlighting that it represents a nearly $2 billion increase over last year's figures.
Weaver questioned the Governor's revenue projections, which anticipate $2 billion more than previous forecasts. He asked, "Where did that money suddenly come from?" The Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability is expected to release its next revenue report in March, which will provide a clearer financial outlook.
According to Weaver, this new data may reveal potential deficits amounting to billions of dollars. This could necessitate significant cuts to essential services, which he describes as "irresponsible governing." Weaver emphasized that "Democrats’ uncontrollable spending must stop," asserting that House Republicans remain committed to fostering economic growth through sound policies while minimizing costs and avoiding tax increases.
