Illinois House Republicans have filed a brief with the Illinois Supreme Court, as requested by the court, to further their argument for fair maps in the state. This move is part of ongoing litigation aimed at ensuring that electoral maps comply with constitutional standards and provide voters with equitable choices.
Deputy Minority Leader Ryan Spain, speaking alongside his colleagues, emphasized the significance of this development: “The Court requesting a brief is a step forward in our fight for fair maps that comply with the Constitution and give voters the choices they deserve. This is not a partisan issue – this is an issue negatively impacting every resident of our state.”
Spain also highlighted the need to address extreme partisanship: “We are in the current state of extreme partisanship by design. We must restore trust in our government and a fair map would bring needed structural change to reinstate a better, balanced Illinois.”
