Today in Peoria, Illinois, 16-year-old Tykvier M. Drummond has been charged with First Degree Murder for the fatal shooting of his father on Monday night in South Peoria. Due to the severity of the charge and his age, the case will automatically be transferred to adult felony court. A petition to detain Drummond has been filed by the State, which a judge is set to review tomorrow. Until then, he remains in custody at the Juvenile Detention Center.

The incident occurred around 9 pm on Monday when police responded to ShotSpotter alerts indicating that 13 rounds had been fired in the 2400 block of W. Howett Street. Officers arrived at the scene to find Michael S. Drummond lying face down with multiple gunshot wounds; he was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

A witness stated that Michael Drummond was driving away from a house where his son stayed with his mother when Tykvier allegedly fired shots at them. The witness further reported that after Michael stopped and exited the vehicle, Tykvier fired additional shots before fleeing. Authorities located and arrested Tykvier on Tuesday.

The investigation into this case is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
