State Representative Travis Weaver of Edwards, Illinois, recently expressed his support for homeschooling freedoms at the Illinois State Capitol. He was joined by fellow Republican State Representatives Regan Deering from Decatur and Brandun Schweizer from Danville. The event also included homeschooled students who were present to advocate for their educational future.
Representative Weaver addressed concerns regarding House Bill 2827, a legislative proposal backed by House Democrats that seeks to introduce new regulations on homeschooling in Illinois. According to Weaver, this bill represents an unnecessary governmental intervention and could complicate the practice of homeschooling in the state.
“Today’s showing in the Capitol proved just how important homeschooling is to families in Illinois,” said Rep. Weaver. “I heard firsthand from families, including the students standing beside me today, about the benefits of their schooling experience, and it goes far beyond the homemade cherry pie they delivered today. Homeschooling is a freedom that must be protected for the sake of thousands in our state.”
Weaver's remarks emphasized his commitment to maintaining homeschooling as a viable option for families across Illinois.
