A correctional officer at the Peoria County Jail has been charged with official misconduct and bringing contraband into a penal institution. Ezekiel J. Hidden, 24, is accused of smuggling a THC vape pen and battery to an inmate in exchange for $1,000.

Detectives from the Peoria County Sheriff's Office were informed of the incident on Thursday. During an interview, Hidden admitted to providing the items to the inmate.

The charges against Hidden fall under the Safe-T Act as a non-detainable offense, which means he will be released from custody under court-ordered conditions.

The investigation is still ongoing. The Peoria County Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information about this case to contact them at 309-697-8515.
