Today, two 17-year-olds, Dayquan D. Diggs and Harrington L. Wadlington, were charged with First Degree Murder in connection with the shooting death of Clay Megan, 22, which occurred last November in North Peoria. Due to their age and the nature of the charge, their cases will be transferred to adult felony court. A Petition to Detain has been filed by the state for both defendants, with a hearing scheduled for Monday. Until then, they will remain at the Juvenile Detention Center.
The incident took place on November 4, 2024. Police responded shortly after midnight to reports of multiple males breaking into vehicles at an apartment complex located in the 8900 block of N. Scrimshaw Drive. While officers were on their way, gunshots were reported from the same location. Upon arrival, officers discovered Megan deceased from a gunshot wound to his neck and collected several shell casings from the scene.
Detectives utilized surveillance footage during their investigation to identify a suspect vehicle that had been previously reported stolen. Inside this vehicle were several male juveniles involved in burglarizing vehicles around Scrimshaw Drive that night. One suspect interviewed admitted to being present in the SUV with Diggs and Harrington during the murder and identified them as the shooters. In addition to murder charges, Diggs and Harrington are also facing burglary charges.
The investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with information about this case is urged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
