March 26, 2025, Peoria, IL—Peoria County Drug Court hosted a ceremony to honor its largest graduating class in the nearly 30-year history of Peoria County Problem-Solving Courts. The event, held in courtroom 210, was presided over by Judge Suzanne Patton and celebrated the achievements of 10 individuals present, as well as two who could not attend, making a total of 12 graduates. Guests at the event included Illinois Supreme Court Justice Lisa Holder White, State's Attorney Jodi Hoos, Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins, Peoria Police Chief Eric Echevarria, and members of the Peoria County Board.

The graduates shared experiences marked by numerous challenges and unexpected changes, receiving support and resources through the program. This assistance enabled them to avoid incarceration and pursue positive paths, including gaining employment and reuniting with families.

Problem-Solving Courts, launched in Peoria County in 1997, aim to rehabilitate defendants instead of imposing jail time. The program includes a minimum one-year commitment, offering services such as counseling, treatment, weekly drug testing, and mandatory court appearances. Successful completion can lead to case dismissal or charge reduction. From last year's graduates, 96% did not re-offend. The program has grown to include a Mental Health Court established in 2010 and a Veterans Court and DUI Court introduced in 2017.
