Today, James R. Holtsclaw, aged 30, was charged with aggravated battery following a stabbing incident that occurred in downtown Peoria over the weekend. At his detention hearing, the court granted the State's Petition to Detain, which means Holtsclaw will remain in custody until his trial.

The incident took place on Saturday, April 12, around 1:35 pm. Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of SW Jefferson Avenue after receiving reports of a stabbing. A victim informed officers that a man he knew as "Jimmy" approached him, stabbed him on the left side with a knife, and then fled through a nearby alley. The victim's injury was not life-threatening, and he received medical treatment at a hospital.

During the subsequent investigation, officers reviewed surveillance footage that showed a person, identified as Holtsclaw, running through the alley with a black object in hand. They arrested Holtsclaw on Tuesday and found him in possession of a knife with a substance resembling blood on the blade.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
