On April 29, 2025, in Peoria, Illinois, charges were filed against Tyshawn D. Britton, aged 24, for Vehicular Hijacking following an incident during a test drive over the weekend. A court granted the State's Petition to detain Britton, meaning he will stay in custody pending trial.

The incident occurred on April 26, around 1:30 pm, when police were called to Autohaus of Peoria for a report of an armed vehicle hijacking. Upon the officers' arrival, the victim detailed that the test drive was arranged over the phone with the individual, later identified as Britton. During the drive, Britton, seated in the passenger seat, allegedly assaulted the victim and implied possession of a gun. The victim stopped the car and exited, after which Britton assumed control of the vehicle and departed.

In the ensuing investigation, law enforcement coordinated with OnStar to locate the stolen Corvette. OnStar relayed that the car was moving at 122 mph before it was remotely slowed and stopped in Logan County. This action led to Britton's arrest.

The investigation into the hijacking is still active. Authorities urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
