On May 1, 2025, in Peoria, Illinois, Jeremy E. Perry, aged 45, entered a guilty plea to charges of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence and Aggravated DUI. The charges stem from a fatal car accident in January 2023 that claimed the life of 43-year-old Miriam Schmid and left her son critically injured.

The incident occurred on the morning of January 15, 2023, when deputies from the Peoria County Sheriff's Office began pursuing Perry's vehicle as he attempted to evade capture. During the pursuit, Perry ran a red light at the intersection of Route 150 and Koerner Road, colliding with Schmid’s car, resulting in a serious three-vehicle accident. The entire event was recorded on the dashcam of a deputy's squad car. Schmid was declared dead at the scene, and her son sustained severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury and a lacerated spleen. A subsequent blood test at the hospital revealed the presence of THC and methamphetamine in Perry's system.

Sentencing in the case is set for June 25.
