State Representative Ryan Spain has initiated his ninth annual Summer Reading Club Program, targeting grade school students from kindergarten to fifth grade in the 73rd House District. The initiative aims to motivate young students to engage in reading during the summer months and underscores the enduring advantages of literacy.

Spain emphasized the importance of maintaining mental activity through reading during summer breaks. "Keeping the mind active through reading over summer break helps ensure students enter the next school year on the front foot," he stated. He further explained that his program provides a fun incentive for students who read eight books over their summer break and submit a form signed by a parent or guardian. "It’s important for all of us to encourage students to get ahead by becoming better readers."

Brochures about the program have been distributed across most local schools and are also accessible via Representative Spain's website or by contacting his Peoria District Office at 309-690-7373. The program allows participation alongside other summer reading initiatives offered by local libraries or schools.

Students participating in this program have until July 31st to complete their reading list and submit their forms. Participants will be acknowledged with special recognition and a prize, with submissions accepted electronically as well.
