Late last night, Illinois Democrats introduced a significant spending plan, totaling over 3,000 pages, with only 24 hours for review before the deadline. The proposed budget amounts to $55.2 billion and includes $1 billion in tax increases. According to Democratic lawmakers, these measures are necessary due to changes under the new administration in Washington.

During a committee hearing held late at night, House Deputy Minority Leader Ryan Spain criticized the Democratic sponsors of the extensive spending plan. Spain highlighted that Illinois has faced financial uncertainty for decades while being under consistent political control. He stated, "If we could have been a state achieving economic growth like all of our neighbors, then we wouldn’t be facing long-forecasted deficits."
