The city of Peoria is gearing up to celebrate the 10th annual Great Neighbor Appreciation Week from July 12 to July 18. This event, organized by the Community Development Department, aims to honor individuals, businesses, and organizations contributing to Peoria's community spirit.
Throughout the week, residents can participate in various activities. On Saturday, July 12, a city-wide cleanup will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at multiple locations including Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Morton Square Park. The initiative encourages community involvement in maintaining local environments.
Monday, July 14 is designated as Nonprofit Appreciation Day, during which Community Development staff will visit nonprofit organizations to acknowledge their efforts in supporting the community.
On Tuesday, July 15, Code Encouragement Day will see staff distributing "Good Job Door Hangers" to residents who excel in property maintenance.
Wednesday, July 16 marks Local Business Appreciation Day. Small and locally-owned businesses will receive visits from staff as a gesture of gratitude for their role in Peoria's growth.
A cookout on Thursday, July 17 will be held next to City Hall from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The event is open to all and features food and family-friendly activities like yard games and face painting.
The week concludes with #GreatNeighborShoutout Day on Friday, July 18. Residents are encouraged to use social media to highlight neighbor-led projects that enhance Peoria's vibrancy using the designated hashtag.
