The City of Peoria will begin upgrading its parking meters and payment system starting August 4, 2025. The city is set to install around 300 new smart meter heads in the downtown area as part of this initiative. In addition to the physical upgrades, all parking meters across Peoria will transition from the current Passport platform to a new payment system managed by IPS Group.
The updated system will allow drivers to pay for parking using coins, credit or debit cards—including a slot on new smart meters—and contactless payments such as Apple Pay and Google Pay via text-to-pay options. Users who choose text-to-pay will receive a 10-minute reminder before their time expires and have the option to extend their session if needed. No app download will be required for these transactions.
To facilitate the changeover, the city announced that payment collection at metered spaces will be suspended from August 4 through August 11.
"The city appreciates the public’s patience during the installation process and looks forward to delivering a more reliable, and user-friendly parking experience," according to an official statement.
