When Governor J.B. Pritzker signed the SAFE-T Act into law in 2021, he described it as a significant move toward equity and accountability in Illinois’ criminal justice system. However, almost four years after its implementation, some residents are questioning whether the law is achieving its intended goals.

The SAFE-T Act has generated ongoing debate about its impact on public safety across Illinois. Concerns have been raised by various groups and individuals who argue that the legislation may not be providing adequate protection for communities.

Travis Weaver, a Republican, was elected to the Illinois State House in 2023 to represent the state's 93rd House District, succeeding Norine Hammond.
