A new light has been installed above the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home to honor patients who have received end-of-life care and those who have died since the facility opened in 2013.
On October 22, OSF HealthCare leaders and members of the community gathered for the unveiling of the Hospice Beacon of Light. The light, which shines from dusk until 2 a.m., is intended to symbolize comfort, peace, and remembrance for patients and their families.
The installation was funded by a donation from the wife of a former patient. She wanted to create a lasting tribute to the care her husband received at the hospice home. Since opening, the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home has provided medical, emotional, and spiritual support to thousands of patients and families in central Illinois.
"The single beam, visible from dusk until 2 a.m., symbolizes comfort, peace and remembrance for patients and families served by the hospice home," according to OSF HealthCare.
