City of Peoria employees have started a food drive called “Thankful Hearts, Full Carts” to help local families in need before Thanksgiving. The initiative invites the public to participate by donating food items on Friday, November 21, 2025. Donations can be dropped off at the Peoria Civic Center Fulton Street Parking Lot between 9 AM and 4 PM.

The collected items will be distributed to three organizations that provide assistance to area families: Sophia’s Kitchen, East Bluff Community Center, and Friendship House. Residents are asked to donate staple foods such as rice, pasta, cereal, peanut butter, pancake mix, canned vegetables, soup, and canned proteins.

According to city staff, “All donations will be shared with three local organizations that serve families in need: Sophia’s Kitchen, East Bluff Community Center, and Friendship House.”

Food donated by both community members and city staff will be delivered to these partner pantries so they can distribute it before Thanksgiving.
