Peoria Fair Employment and Housing Commission met Thursday, March 3.
The FEHC consists of seven members broadly representative of the religious, ethnic and economic groups of the city. Staff support is provided by the Equal Opportunity Office. The commission meets on the first Thursday of each month in Peoria City Hall.

The meeting was held on March 3, 2016 at 4:31 p.m., at City Hall, Room 404, 419 Fulton Street, Rev. Barry Robinson, Chair presiding.
ROLL CALL
Roll call showed the following Commissioners present: Rev. Barry Robinson, Irma Ali Khan, Heather M. Oyler and Michelle Sanders – 4. Absent: Hamah Firman, Christopher Bailey, and Nicole Livsey – 3. Also present was Staff Liaison David Watkins, E.O. Manager.

Commissioner Irma Ali Khan motioned to approve February minutes; seconded by Commissioner Heather Oyler.
Motion was approved by unanimous voice vote.

Purchasing Diversity Workshop
Staff Liaison David Watkins told the members placed this item on the agenda just for their information. Wanted the members to know about outreach efforts to attract minority businesses into the City’s procurement process. Watkins mentioned the event would be held on March 9, 2016 at the Gateway Building from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Ordinance Re: Fair Employment Practices
Staff Liaison David Watkins handed the members a copy of the ordinance the City Council was considering regarding improving the hiring of minorities and women. Watkins mentioned the Council had its “First Read” of the ordinance at their February 23, 2016 meeting. Watkins wanted the members to know what the city was doing to enhance employment.
The members were also told a new hiring cycle for police was about to start.
