Following the retirement of Peoria County Treasurer Edward “Tripp” O’Connor, the Peoria County board is currently accepting applications for his replacement, who would serve a term ending on Nov. 30, 2018.
The Peoria County Board Chairman Andrew Rand must fill the empty position, with approval from the county board, by April 10, which is 60 days from the date the board accepted O’Connor’s resignation.
The county treasurer is responsible for receipt, management and disbursement of public funds. O’Connor's replacement will also be responsible for actions related to property taxes imposed by local government, including collection, management and distribution, as well as biannual real estate tax collection. Per statute, the person replacing O’Connor must be a resident of the county and a Republican.
"The treasurer position is significant in that it not only oversees the collection and distribution of taxes, but also the investment of Peoria County's dollars," County Board Chairman Andrew Rand said. "We will be looking at candidates who have appropriate backgrounds and can also lead a department."
Those interested in the position must submit a resume, reference and a County Board Appointment Application, which can be found on the county’s website, by March 1.
