City of Peoria Springdale Cemetery Management Authority Committee met April 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Chairman Manning called the meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. in the Springdale Cemetery meeting room in the Volunteer and Maintenance Building on Tuesday, April 18, 2017. A roll call of Authority members was taken and Chairman Manning announced there was a quorum. Chairman Manning asked all in attendance to please stand and join in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Approval Of March 21, 2017 Regular Meeting Minutes:

Mr. Stuttle made a motion to approve the minutes of the March 21, 2017 regular meeting. Mr. Kerr seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Public Comment:

None.

Savanna Update:

Mike Rucker, Peoria Wilds, reported that due to the rainy weather this year, the prescribed burn of the area will be postponed until fall.

Mr. Rucker also reported the Springdale savanna will again be one of the Science Sites in the 28th Annual Science Treasure Hunt.

General Manager’s Report:

Mark Matuszak distributed his report (which is attached hereto and made a part of these Minutes) and answered questions from the Authority.

· Burials for the month - 14 total - 12 full/2 cremains.

· All hands on deck cutting grass and cleaning up the cemetery.

· Records preservation is ongoing.

· The dedication for the new entrance is being planned with a tentative date of June 14, Flag Day.

Received a donation from a major supporter of Springdale that will ensure the new entrance lighting plan can be completed as designed.

· Met with Peoria Mayor, City Manager and Director of Public Works regarding much needed road work and drainage conditions. The City has agreed to do some repairs.

· Reported on the Central Illinois Paranormal Society and Haunted Springdale Tours that are not authorized and should not be charging admission while in the cemetery.

· We received an extra month’s pro-rated payment for February and a full March payment for the Verizon cell tower which was not anticipated.

Report Of Officers:

Treasurer’s Report:

Mr. Stuttle reported on checks written in March and reviewed the financial reports with the Authority.

Approval Of Checks Written:

Ms. Frank made a motion to receive and file the March 2017 check register and checks written in the amount of $17,644.58. Mr. Kerr seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Approval Of Financial Report:

Ms. Doubleday made a motion to receive and file the March 2717 financial statements. Ms. Frank seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Mr. Stuttle reported the audit should be completed soon and a clean audit opinion is anticipated.

Investment/Finance:

No report.

Report Of Committee Chairs:

No report.

Monument Restoration:

Due to an estimated costly repair expense, Mr. Ryan reported a decision on repairing the Bastow Petherbridge steps will take some time.

Historic Preservation Foundation:

Ms. Frank requested members of the Authority make a donation to the Foundation.

Unfinished Business:

Mr. Stuttle reported the year 2020 will be the 150th anniversary of the Soldier’s Hill monument, originally dedicated on Memorial Day in 1870

New Business:

Public Comment:

Ms. Leslie Renkin, Journal Star, 1 News Plaza, suggested some financial gain could be made if we were to reconsider participating in the paranormal tours.

Motion To Adjourn:

Motion was made by Ms. Powers to adjourn the regular meeting. Mr. Kerr seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

None.

Meeting was adjourned at 4:30 pm
