Peoria Heights Public Library Board of Trustees met May 9.

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

The regular meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Peoria Heights Public Library was held in the Local


History Room on May 9, 2017. The meeting was called to order at 4:30 p.m. by the President.

Roll Call: The following members answered the roll call: Jeanette Hillyer, Anne Lockhart, Margy

Simmons, Tom Horstmann, Nancy Marshall and Lisa Reinholtz

Absent: Bill Bradley

Also present: Shawn Edwards, Director

Minutes: The minutes of the regular meeting of April 2017 were approved as printed.

Public Comments: No one from the public was present to offer comments.

Bills: After examining the bills, Margy Simmons moved, seconded by Lisa Reinholtz that the

bills be approved and paid. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: Jeanetter Hillyer, Anne

Lockhart, Margy Simmons, Tom Horstmann, Nancy Marshall and Lisa Reinholtz. No

Nays, motion carried.

Treasurer's Report: The April Treasurer’s Report was submitted and discussed. Tom Horstmann

moved, seconded by Anne Lockhart that the Treasurer’s Report be approved. Roll

Call Vote: Ayes: Jeanette Hillyer, Anne Lockhart, Margy Simmons, Tom

Horstmann, Nancy Marshall and Lisa Reinholtz. No Nays, motion carried.

Director’s Report

Director Edwards gave the following reports:

The non-resident fee for 2017 has been calculated at $165.70. Margy moved, seconded by Tom

Horstmann to approve the revised fee amount. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: Jeanette Hillyer, Anne

Lockhart, Margy Simmons, Tom Horstmann, Nancy Marshall and Lisa Reinholtz. No Nays, motion

carried.

The bond interest payment of $2,025 due in June was made to Citizens Bank of Central Illinois.

City Coal recently filled in the excavated areas in the parking lot with fresh asphalt. As soon as weather

permits, the parking lot will be sealcoated and striped. Since the parking lot will need to be closed off,

this work will occur on a Saturday when the library is closed.

A couple of new media shelving units were purchased from Demco to satisfy the space demands of the

growing DVD and Blu-ray collection. The existing shelves will be used to expand audiobook capacity.

Expected delivery of the units is in July.

The CD/DVD cleaning machine currently on lease from ELM USA will be purchased. ELM has

discontinued their leasing program and gave participants the option of returning or purchasing the

machine at a one-time, discounted cost of $600. This is a steep reduction of the estimated new purchase

price of $1500.

Pauli Builders will be changing the locks and handles on the rear door to the meeting room. There will

be locks on both sides of the door when work is completed.

Annual review – Krissy Short: Director Edwards spoke about Krissy’s work and recommended that the

board grant her a step raise. Discussion followed. Tom moved, seconded by Ann Lockhart, to give

Krissy a step raise. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: Jeanette Hillyer, Anne Lockhart, Margy Simmons, Tom

Horstmann, Nancy Marshall and Lisa Reinholtz. No Nays, motion carried.

Annual review – Wanda Rogers: Director Edwards discussed Wanda’s work and recommended that the

board grant her a step raise. Discussion followed. Margy moved, seconded by Lisa, to give Wanda a step

raise. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: Jeanette Hillyer, Anne Lockhart, Margy Simmons, Tom Horstmann,

Nancy Marshall and Lisa Reinholtz. No Nays, motion carried.

Helping Hand Resale Shoppe recently made a monetary donation to the library’s Summer Reading

Challenge.

The new Peoria Heights mayor, Mike Phelan, would like to hold a community-wide discussion of

village needs. A June 7 meeting date is planned.

The American Library Association’s annual conference in June is being held in Chicago. Krissy and/or

Shawn may attend if time allows.

The library’s 2017 garden project is entitled “Flutter & Buzz: Defenders of Nature.” The program will

educate participants on gardening that benefits pollinators like bees, butterflies, wasps and

hummingbirds. The program runs from June 27 to August 1.

The Summer Reading Challenge starts on June 1. The theme is “Reading by Design” and illustrates the

importance of science and art in educating children.

There was no RAILS report.

New Business

The next meeting will be held June 13, 2017 in the local history room.

Margy Simmons and Bill Bradley will not be attending the June Board meeting.

With no further business to discuss, President Hillyer adjourned the meeting at 5:15 p.m.
