City of Peoria Tourism Reserve Fund Committee met June 9.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

The regular meeting for the Tourism Reserve Fund Committee was held on June 9, 2017, in Room 110 at City Hall, 419 Fulton Street, Peoria, Illinois, 61602. The meeting was called to order at 9:04 am.

2. Approval of the Minutes

o A motion was made by Leonard Unes to approve the minutes from the April 7, 2017 regular meeting, and seconded by Bill Spears.

3. Review of Financial Report

Shaun Schoonover reviewed and provided current financials. 

Dan Kouri motioned to receive and file financials, Leonard Unes seconded.

4. items for Approval

4a. Grant Application for Peoria Area Community Events - Gus Macker $30,000 requested (Local)

Brad Pierson spoke about last year's Gus Macker being held at Northwoods Community Church and that the Gus Macker will be held there again this year. Mr. Pierson stated that the restaurants at Grand Prairie noticed an increase in business due to the event. He also stated that only 250 teams will be allowed to participate. The downfall of a limited amount of teams is less funds coming in from entry fees with the same amount of expenses. 

Leonard Unes spoke about the budget and that the policy of the TRF Committee is to provide seed money for new events to help them get started. Mr. Unes motioned to grant $10,000, Bill Spears seconded the motion.

4b. Grant Application for Pleasure Driveway and Park District of Peoria Fiesta en el Rio, Soul Fest, Erin Feis, Oktoberfest $10,000 requested ($2,500 for each risk pool) (local) Nick Conrad from the Peoria Park District spoke about each of the events. Dan Kouri asked about partnerships. Nick stated they are in partnerships with Irish Fest and Oktoberfest. Soul Fest and Peoria Fest are 100% Park District. 

Bill Spears motioned to grant $10,000; Dan Kouri seconded the motion.

4c. Grant Application for Peoria Park District - Central Illinois BBOThrow Down $6,000 requested (Local) 

Nick Conrad stated that the Peoria Park District is taking over the BBOThrow Down from the original committee. Nick spoke about the event being on the Riverfront. Bill Spears inquired how this event will grow. Nick stated they are still trying to find the niche. Bill also mentioned bringing in the farm community. 

Leonard Unes motioned to grant $6,000; Dan Kouri seconded the motion.

4d. Grant Application for Illinois Council of Convention and Visitor BureausICCVB Fall Membership Meeting: Amount Requested $1,000 (10% Fund) Joni Staley explained that the host City is asked to come up with sponsorship money to offset costs. Costs include transportation, food and beverage. Cori Hatfield commented that one reason it is important to bring this event here is that it brings all the State tourism leaders to Peoria. 

Dan Kouri motion to approve $1,000 and Bill Spears seconded the motion.
