City of Chillicothe Cemetery and Parks Committee met June 12.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

The Cemetery and Parks Committee met on June 12, 2017, at 5:45 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Present: Chairman Connor Alderman Jenkins

Alderman Gould

Also in attendance: City Clerk Hurd Mayor White

Superintendent Shawn Sutherland Alderman Sharp

Cemetery Care Taker Jerry Myers Alderman Hughes

Absent: None

Chairman Connor called the meeting to order at 5:47pm.

Superintendent of Public Works Sutherland presented proposals for a Utility Tractor to be used by the cemetery and parks. He told the committee that the best proposal was from Kelly, Sauder and Rupiper in the amount of $23,450.00. He explained to the committee that money will come from two separate line items in the budget, half under cemetery and half under parks. Cemetery and Parks Caretaker, Jerry Myers explained the need for the tractor and how it will be utilized. Discussion ensued. It was the consensus of the committee to seek council approval for the tractor.

Clerk Hurd explained to the committee that proposals for the concrete work around the columbarium had been presented under the old committee (Public Safety) and that it was the consensus of that committee to grant the work to Shepard Concrete once it was confirmed that the proposal did include prevailing wage. Clerk Hurd told the committee that it had been confirmed that prevailing wage was included and that Alderman Connor will have payment to Shepard Concrete as an agenda item at tonight’s council meeting.

Superintendent Sutherland told the committee that a dead tree had been removed from the cemetery in section 32 and that he had a request from Ricky Olson owner of lot 39 to have the tree replaced. Discussion ensued and it was the consensus of the committee to have Superintendent Sutherland contact a nursery and get cost estimates on replacement.

Mayor White told the committee that he had been working with the Sademakers committee on Eagle Landing and Johnsons Landing. Mayor White presented some improvement ideas on both parks and asked the committee to authorize the City Engineer to develop a concept plan on an as needed basis for the Riverfront. It was the consensus of the committee to seek council approval for the engineer work.

Discussion was held in regards to signs for the city parks. It was agreed that there is no consistency in the current signs. It was the consensus of the committee to start getting proposals for new signs.

Chairman Connor stated that next agenda item – Riverfront Improvement – had already been discussed. She gave a recap of the discussion.

Under Public Comment, city worker Jerry Myers voiced his concern with clean-up and removal of animal waste on city property, specifically the city parking lots. Discussion ensued. Mayor White told the committee that he would get clarification on city ordinance in regards to animal clean up.

Clerk Hurd told the committee that she received a written request in regards to an additional plaque being placed in the cemetery. She told the committee that it will be an agenda item on the next Cemetery Parks Committee meeting.

There being no further business, meeting adjourned at 6:30 pm
