The calls in Canton included 39 fires - 21 structure fires, six vehicle fires and 10 other fires. The fire department also responded to two calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.
In all, the department saw $553,001 in fire loss - or about $14,180 per fire.
The department also received 73 false calls, including five malicious calls and 68 other false calls.
The CantonFirefighters' Pension Fund, which has 14 active employees and 23 retired or inactive employees, was $960,362 in debt as of April 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $24,625 for every fire in 2016.
