The River City Roofing Company showed its gratitude to one Peoria veteran in a tangible way this year: a new roof.
It started when veteran Charlie Davis sought out assistance from the Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs’ (IDVA), according to a press release. He spoke with Tracy Trueblood, a veterans service officer. Davis’s roof was in need of repairs. The IDVA's Serving Those Who Served program is designed to help veterans with a project, but a new roof was a tall order. Still, Trueblood saw a good reason to make it work.
“Mr. Davis has served his country and could not repair his roof,” Trueblood said in the release. “This is not something we normally handled for our veterans, but the IDVA had started a Serving Those Who Served program, and I decided to help.”
Trueblood connected with Tim Garrison at the River City Roofing Company, who was more than willing to help. Garrison's company replaced Davis' roof on Veteran's Day.
“I honestly think with all the negative reporting we see these days towards our flag, traditions, soldiers, and our country, that it is even more important to show our children, employees, and customers, that we respect our great country, and wholeheartedly support the men and women that give us the freedoms we have today,” Garrison said in the release. “We have far too many of our Veterans that cannot make ends meet, and in my opinion, that is something that every civilian, should take a stand to, and give back to these brave individuals in whatever way they can.”
