The Peoria community came together this holiday season to help those who are less fortunate and who depend on the Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service to provide food for their families.
The 30th annual Stuff-A-Bus food drive, which began Oct. 27 and ended Nov. 28, collected 20,096 pounds of food, a posting on the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce website said.
The Peoria Friendship House of Christian Service has helped residents with food, clothing, education, employment help and other programs in the Near Northside and East Bluff neighborhoods, and the surrounding areas, the posting saId.
“We are thrilled we met our goal to collect 10 tons of food for the 30th Anniversary Celebration of Stuff-A-Bus this year,” Robert Montgomery, president and CEO of Peoria Friendship House, said in the posting. “It is obvious by the amount of donations collected that this food drive would not be a continual success without the generosity and support we receive from the community. These donations are a blessing to the families we serve in our food pantry”.
The local Kroger grocery store once again partnered with CityLink to help fill a CityLink bus. They were joined by a variety of organizations and businesses to donate time and resources. Volunteers from local churches to the Peoria Mustangs hockey team came together to help the program.
In addition to the programs the Peoria Friend House provides, they have served approximately 54,000 meals so far this year to the people of Peoria, the posting said.
