CITY OF EAST PEORIA POLICE DEPARTMENT: Leaving after the fireworks - Patience Is Essential!

Trafficnight

City of East Peoria Police Department issued the following announcement on July 2.

When thousands of people come to a party, there will be traffic slow-downs. Patience and humor are encouraged.

The Police Department says those leaving downtown fireworks viewing areas should expect traffic delays. After the fireworks, for those parked at Riverside Center shopping complex, the road between Lowe’s and Walmart SuperCenter is the traffic dividing line.

In the Riverside Center area:

For those parked at Walmart and in the PetSmart area, traffic will be directed out on River Road toward West Washington Street and I-74. Walmart traffic may exit onto Riverside Drive via the road between Lowe's and Walmart.

Those parked at Lowe's as well as at Bass Pro Shop will be directed one way out using Riverside Drive toward West Camp Street.

For those on the Lowe’s side, all lanes of traffic will leave Riverside Drive onto West Camp Street. All Riverside Drive traffic must turn left onto West Camp Street. All traffic will be directed east on West Camp Street.

In The Levee District:

All Levee District traffic parking will have to exit north onto Clock Tower Drive or Spinder Drive toward West Washington Street.

Traffic from Clock Tower Drive may travel east or west on West Washington Street.

Traffic from Spinder Drive will be directed eastbound on West Washington Street.

Town Center II shopping center

Those at the Town Center II shopping center will exit traveling east on the Springfield Road extension or southbound on Main Street.

Road closures after the fireworks:

The Bob Michel Bridge over the Illinois River for approximately 1 to 2 hours

North Main Street (Route 116) between Camp and Washington streets for approximately 1 to 2 hours.

Westbound Springfield Road extension at Taylor Street until approximately 11:30 p.m.

Interstate 74

I-74 west and east will be accessible on East Washington Street and North Main Street. The I-74 west ramp on East Camp Street will also be open.

PATIENCE IS STRONGLY ENCOURAGED!
